Nothing got written yesterday and today hasn’t been much better (a few hundred words).
I need to get my act together and make writing part of my daily routine. It’s said that it takes around a fortnight until something becomes habit. Maybe longer if you’re a “natural” procrastinator as I seem to be.
But I intend to get there, even if 28 days is a bit optimistic for me!
OK, I’ve spent about an hour writing today. Word count is just under 2,500 and the characters have introduced themselves to each other.
My typing speed is nowhere near fast enough – will need to either speed up, take longer or delve through my CD collection and see if I can find where I’ve put my copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking that I didn’t get round to installing when I changed PC.
I’m going to skip the progress upload today but hopefully will be back on track tomorrow.
I haven’t spent as much time writing today as I’d like. Probably around 20 minutes or so. But that means I’m another page or two closer to the finished novel and I should be able to catch up the time another day.
And I’m not sure exactly where the section I wrote today will fit in – it’s background information, so it will fit somewhere, just not sure where yet.

Most of the hour or so today has been spent on sketching out the main characters and coming up with a batch of chapter headings so I know which way the novel will move as it develops.
The nice part about writing chapter headings is that it gives direction and also lets me see where the novel is likely to be too “thin”.
Novel in a month suggests that I start with 20 chapter headings. I’ve done this but have to confess I haven’t totally followed their system for plotting these out. So the chapter summary below is less complete than it should be. (more…)
The synposis of the novel is supposed to be the most important part.
So I’ve spent some time crafting my synopsis.
I’ve decided that mine will be a science fiction novel. Set on some desolate planet somewhere in the universe.
The planet is deserted – not because there are no other occupied planets, just because that’s the type of planet we’re exploring.
OK.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Write a novel.
Now I’ve got the Novel in a Month report, I guess I need to make a start… (more…)
